Our Story

Harvest of Generosity

Summer 2012, while our founder Zach was in Panama, he asked God to show him what He wanted him to do with his life. Zach learned that God wanted him to start a farm where students and other individuals can come, harvest produce, then take that produce to those in need. At the thought, he was terrified. Zach didn't know how to garden, where the money would come from, or how the details would come together. God simply wanted him to start this farm as a ministry for both those receiving the produce and for those students that will be working the farm. God provided and Harvest of Generosity was started.

First Gardens

Summer 2013 Harvest of Generosity planted its first gardens wherever they could find the space. We had gardens in back yards, a church, and a public community garden. During that first year 1,000 pounds of produce was grown and donated. We also started working with students by planning Harvest Camps at the end of the summer.

During 2014 God blessed Harvest of Generosity with a lot of growth. We kicked the year off with a Jeff Anderson Worship night concert, and a large purity conference for youth in the community. During the purity conference nearly 20 students gave their life to Christ! In 2014, Harvest of Generosity also established gardens at two new churches. During the summer we were able to grow nearly 2,500 pounds of produce. Our student ministry expanded a lot during the summer and we were meeting with youth 2-3 times a week.

Formation of Non-Profit

  • We held our first board meeting on February 19th, 2015.
  • We became a non profit with the state of Michigan in March 2015
  • We obtained our 501(c)(3) tax status in June 2017

We continue to look for ways to reach more people with Harvest of Generosity. For 2015, it is our goal to grow 3,500 pounds of produce. We can not complete this goal without the help of others and we want to thank all those who have volunteered their time.
